More Red Bean Sessions coming your way!

Radiohead In Rainbows

Early this month, I finally gave into temptation and bought Radiohead’s latest full length album, “In Rainbows”. However, this purchase was quite unlike any other I’ve undertaken so far – a digital download.

The concept was simple enough. Firstly, log on to Radiohead’s webpage for the record www.inrainbows.com , choose between the pre-order discbox or order the music download direct. Following which, you just select the price you wish to pay, make the online payment (via credit) and voila! The album is yours and you’ll be directed to a webpage with a link for the download (and subsequently an email with the same link appears in your email).

Such was the experience of my virginal online music-download purchase – a hassle-free process, that I was a purchase-your music-online convert right away. Previously, I held off buying music online due to concerns that may be deemed irrational to the tech-savvy users out there.

A key concern of mine was the issue of electronic data loss. What will happen to my music if my computer crashes or some malignant virus wipes off all data from my hard-drive?

This month, Audioreload brings you an exclusive interview with Tegan Quin of the band Tegan and Sara. The twin sisters are currently on tour with sold-out shows worldwide promoting their latest album The Con. Read on as Tegan shares what it takes to fulfill a dream to become a full time musician, t-shirt culture and side projects with Hunter Burgan, current bassist of AFI.

As Tegan and Sara progress through the years, there's this constantly evolving sophistication to the materials you girls put out. For example, The Con is certainly much more layered and varied as compared to the previous outings. What inspired all this sophistication?

We had a lot more time to put together The Con. In the past we were strapped for time (whereas) with The Con we had an abundance. Every detail was filtered through Sara or I before we made the record. It reflects how we hear ourselves. It’s modeled heavily after our demos which are created in our home studios.

It’s everywhere – you hear it on the radio, in shopping malls, in the public toilet and even at the hawker centre: thefamiliar (and) annoying R&B hit, “Umbrella”, or as Rihanna would have it - “Um-ber-ella”.

Being overplayed as it is, it certainly shares a penchant for being over-covered as well, and the novelty has certainly worn out by now. So what has this cover, or ‘remix’ as the artiste would have, got that caught my attention?

For starters, while I’ve heard numerous funk-ed and rock versions, a metal version is certainly a first for me. So curiously, I decided to take a listen by taking a look at his myspace site. I mean, what the heck, it can’t possibly kill me, can it?

Collisions. Screeching brakes, a malicious tackle, careless words stabbed in like razor-sharp blades. And they usually hit you at your weakest. It happens in relationships and it happens in bands. Bands break up for a multitude of reasons. Here’s looking at three major ones that broke up one of the defining bands of Alternative Rock in the 90s.

Singaporean musician Corrinne May returns home for a concert appearance in NUS this August, quite possibly her only concert performance in Singapore for this year. The last time she performed at the NUS UCC Hall was to two full houses in Feb 2006.

This time round Corrinne will perform songs from her upcoming third album, Beautiful Seed, as well as favorites from her previous two albums, Safe In A Crazy World and Fly Away. Tickets are almost sold out (we found a pair being exchanged on Yahoo Auctions Singapore for a cool $140!), so pull out whatever special favors you can muster to land seats for what promises to be an unforgettable, magical evening with Ms. May.

Corrinne kindly agreed to answer some questions we were curious about, giving us some insight on what she’s been up to, and what to expect at her show back here.
