“Pencil Tracings” is a 2-song digital EP that is released in support of Singaporean Singer-Songwriter Jon Chan's debut solo album, “Eyes & Ears”, which is scheduled for release later this month. Chan, who is better known for his energetic and boisterous work as the frontman of indie-punk band, Plainsunset, takes a step into uncharted waters of acoustic-folk with this release. Featuring just two songs, “Security” and “Water Line”, this release offers fans and curious onlookers a peek into what his full-length album will be like. For those expecting something similar to his work with Plainsunset, be prepared to completely bowled over. Traversing into the realms of acoustic-folk, the two songs are anything but similar to his work with Plainsunset, other than the introspective quality and honesty of his lyrics. Dealing with deeply personal issues such as insecurities, life and love, the songs exude raw emotion and they easily tug on the heart strings ever-so-gently. I particularly liked “Water Line”, which was featured a dreamy arpegiated melody-line on guitar which was top-off by a slide-guitar solo!If what we hear on Pencil Tracings is anything to go by, I am certainly looking forward to hearing the rest of “Eyes & Ears”. Tickets can be bought at Esplanade Ticket Office and authorised SISTIC outlets, at $25.
